82nd Anniversary of Camp Davis Event- April 8, 2023

Despite poor weather, the 82nd anniversary event commemorating the “opening” of WWII Camp Davis was a huge success! The event was relocated into the Holly Ridge Volunteer Fire Dept. Bldg. (many thanks to the chief & firefighters!) and our various displays, exhibits, demonstrations and even two jeeps, were situated inside this spacious facility. Antiaircraft troops, WACs, and British troops were represented and the Topsail Island Historical Society set an exhibit on the WASPs. The HRVFD organized a hot dog cookout as a fundraiser and all the volunteers were treated to a complimentary lunch. a large crowd of between 400-500 turned out for the program which ran from 10 am to 4 pm. A special thanks to all the dedicated living history folks and vehicle collectors who made this event possible.
